Classify room conditions

Turn sensor readings into a discussion about data and decisions.

Completed course project · adaptable outline

A teaching sequence

  1. Define the classes

Choose meaningful room-condition labels and describe how each will be assigned. Keep the task narrow enough to evaluate.

  2. Collect and label

Record sensor readings alongside the labels. Keep units, sampling intervals, and conditions consistent. Avoid collecting unnecessary personal information.

  3. Compare approaches

Compare a simple rule with a trained classifier. Separate training examples from evaluation examples so students can see whether the model generalizes.

  4. Evaluate and communicate

Report correct and incorrect classifications and explain sensor limitations. Treat the system as a learning prototype, not a certified air-quality or health instrument.
